Jade lay face up in the lifeboat, the sun beating down on her face. The boat was Roger's parting gift to her, though he left out the oars. Jade became delerious after days without food or water. She slipped in and out of consciousness.
One day, the sun on Jade's face was suddenly gone. She struggled to open her eyes. She could see shadows and heard voices that seemed miles away...

((I will make as many empty death threats as I so choose.))
Mara sat on the prow of her ship, the rise and fall of the bow lulling her somewhat as it always did. The Tahiti was in no rush today. She had made a handsome haul the night before and Mara had called for an easy day for her crew. Of course, an easy day in Mara's eyes was not always considered such. Yet the crew gratefully accepted her doubled salary to them for the haul, no complaints.
She closed her eyes as sea spray violently flew into her face, and when she reopened them, she saw something. Mara blinked again, staring harder into the sea off to her starboard side. "What in God's name..." she trailed. It was a boat, a small one with apparently no oars and a figure lying in it alone.
"Anchors, now!" Mara yelled as they neared the boat. She jumped from the prow, shouting orders. The Tahiti, under the skillful guidance of one William Dune and the fast-working hands of those under one Philip Penn, halted quickly yet gently. The ship cast a long shadow over the little boat.
Mara removed her sword, pistol, and various other weapons from her person, throwing them on deck. As she took off her hat, she gave commands for a rope ladder to be lowered, and dove off the [/iTahiti[/i] into the crystalline waters.
She emerged quickly, still yelling at her crew for staring at her and not following orders and swam towards the little row boat. Pulling herself up on the edge carefully so as not to tip the little craft, she found that the figure was still somewhat alive and was in fact a fellow pirate.
"Come on, mate. Wake up now. Come one," she said, checking the girl's pulse with two fingers on her wrist. "Come on, don't you die on me, mate. Come on."
Jade's eyes fluttered open. Above her, she saw a woman who looked a couple years older than she was. She was the most beautiful thing Jade had ever seen; she couldn't help but smile. "Thankyou," Jade breathed. Suddenly, the world turned and Jade fell out of consciousness...

"Damn it," Mara muttered. She began to swim the short distance back to the Tahiti attempting to pull the boat along, but soon realized that that would be impossible.
She pulled the girl from the boat carefully and began to swim one-armed, holding the girl with her other arm. Penn, anticipating her arrival, descended the ladder that had been rolled out and took the girl's limp body from Mara when she came near. He threw her over his shoulder and easily carried her up the ladder, Mara right behind him.
On deck, Penn waited with the girl in his arms as Mara regained her effects. "Let's take her to a hammock, Penn. The rest of you, back to yer duties. Skiff, get to the helm 'til one of us can relieve you. Dune, bring me water, hardtack, and rum. Quickly."
"Rum?" Dune asked. "You're going to give 'er rum?"
"No, you idiot," Mara scolded. "The rum's for me." She turned and followed Penn below decks as the crew scurried to do her bidding. They reached the main quarters of the crew and Penn deposited the girl in a hammock. Mara sat down on the floor beside her as Dune brought in the supplies she had requested. "Dune, to the helm. Penn, dismissed."
The two pirates left Mara with the girl. Mara sighed and waited for her to regain consciousness.
Jade opened her eyes. She was obviously on some sort of ship. She tried to sit up but her head would not allow it. When Jade looked around, she saw a pirate woman sitting next to her watching her every move.

"That's the spirit," Mara remarked, standing now, as the girl was conscious. She smiled as she took a swig of rum before passing food and water to the pirate.
"The name's Mara Finch, Cap'n Mara Finch of the Tahiti Sun, the little beauty you've found yerself on," Mara introduced. "Well, actually, the Tahiti found you...but anyway, we saw ya driftin' around in a little jollyboat, half-dead, and jus' so happened to take the time to save yer life. Now, with that said, the least you can do fer me is to tell me yer name. I won't press you fer more yet. You're still lookin' a little green about the gills, then."
((arg!!!! fine!!!! shorty posts? =P i like my shorty posts. short and cute like me. =PP))
Jade let the liquid warm her veins. A good strong rum. Obviously a successful pirate. The Tahiti Sun. Jade pondered the name for a moment. The name was familiar. Never heard of Mara Finch though. She shrugged to herself. "Well, you can leave me at the next port. In the meantime, I'll work for food and passage. Raised on a ship, so whatever job you have for me is fine."
((ze posts are cute, but very difficult to build up, m'dear)) "Raised on a ship, you say? Which, if you don't mind my askin'? I consider myself a bit of a historian on our bold predecessors. Always lookin' to learn more."
Mara studied the girl, realizing she hadn't asked for a name. "And what do they call you? How could I neglect that?" As soon as she asked the second question, she realized she knew the answer and nodded to herself, saying, "Oh yes, the rum. Of course."
Jade eyed Mara suspiciously. She did not know if being familiar with her ship was a good or bad thing. Despite her reservations, and perhaps with a bit of help from the rum, she spoke, " The name is Jade Ramen. Formerly of the Virginia Moon. Captain Keith Sound, you may have heard of his passing. His predescessor Roger, probably not."
